Introduction:
SDM CDSH, the most cherished dream of Poojya Shri D. Veerendra Heggade, just marked 35 years
and embarked its journey into 36 year. The college saw its humble beginning on September 16 1986.

The initiative of Dental College in the North Karnataka Region was with sole motto to serve the people
in the region by the visionary Poojya Shri D. Veerendra Heggade.

SDM CDSH has been functioning in the present campus since 1990 and has carved its niche as one of
the best Dental Colleges beyond leaps and bounds. It boasts of a huge 27 acres of lush green land
with fine architectural buildings and is a landmark on the Hubli-Dharwad highway.

SDM CDSH has 9 specialty departments functioning with state-of-the-art facilities and providing the
best possible quality dental care to the public. The college enrols 100 undergraduate students and 45
postgraduates in the respective speciality each year. Apart from the specialty departments, the
College boasts unique sections like Craniofacial Unit catering to complex Maxillofacial surgeries,
Implantology, Forensic Odontology (one of the first in any dentistry college), Special Health Care Unit,
to name a few. The hospital since its inception has treated more than ten lakhs seventy thousand
patients till date, including many requiring critical care and expertise in handling. Faculties of this
college have been guest speakers at various National and International Conferences.

The strength of any institute lies in its alumni, who are the true ambassadors of the college’s training.
SDM CDSH is proud to have over 4000 alumni, with an association called SPANDANA, to strengthen
ties with their alma mater and gain inputs to continuously help the institute improvise its standards.

Uniqueness:
▪ SDM CDSH is unique in many ways, being probably the only Dental college to start without an
associate medical college.
▪ SDM CDSH has been the only Dental college accredited by NAAC consecutively for 3 cycles with an
‘A’ grade quality.
▪ The first dental college to start independently functioning Implantology & Forensic Odontology
Departments.
▪ The institution also boasts a state-of-the-art Craniofacial Unit, which caters to surgical needs of
patients with cleft lip and palate, oral cancers and injuries of head and neck structures.
▪ SDM CDSH, Sattur, Dharwad was awarded by the Government of Karnataka, for outstanding

performances in executing “Danta Bhagya Yojane” by the Department of Prosthodontics at 1
Karnataka State Conference of Dental Health Officers held in 2020.
▪ Since its inception more than 3,000 undergraduates and 1000 postgraduates have been conferred
the degrees. The students trained here have made the institute proud by earning laurels at the
University level by bagging ranks and gold medals. The proud alumni of the college have been
successful not only across India but also around the globe serving as well-known Dentists /
Academicians of highest order.

Recognitions / Accreditations:
▪ Recognized by the Dental Council of India, New Delhi.
▪ National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accredited with CGPA of 3.52 out of 4.00
point scale at ‘A’ grade.
