Program Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)
Program code 3.1
Intake 100 (40 Govt., 40 Private / Open, 15 NRI & 5 Others) seats
Duration 4 years plus 1 year Compulsory Rotating Internship.
Eligibility • Pass in 10+2 or equivalent examination conducted by Department of Pre-University Education,
Criteria Karnataka State or any other boards / Councils / Intermediate Education established by State
Governments / Central Government or any recognised two-year Pre-University, with Physics,
Chemistry, Biology and English, with a minimum 50 % marks scored together in Physics, Chemistry
and Biology

Description & • BDS is 5-year undergraduate professional degree program designed to train students to be a doctor
Career who can diagnose, treat and prevent oral diseases. The program incorporates necessary medical
Prospects knowledge and procedural skills to treat oral diseases, restore aesthetics and function of mouth and
related structures.
• BDS program focusses on providing training in basic sciences (Human Anatomy, Embryology,
Histology & Medical Genetics, Human Physiology & Biochemistry, Nutrition & Dietetics, Behavioural
sciences including both Sociology and Psychology) Pre-clinical (Dental Anatomy, Embryology and
Oral Histology, General Pathology & Microbiology, General and Dental Pharmacology and
Therapeutics, Dental Materials, Forensic Odontology and Ethics) and Clinical (General Medicine,
General Surgery, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics,
Periodontology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge, Oral Implantology
Paediatric & Preventive Dentistry, Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics and Public Health
Dentistry) subjects
• After completion of BDS, our graduates will be able to confidently practice general dental practice
and can choose to be a self-employed professional. Our training will also orient the graduates for
further specializations in nine branches of dentistry. Interested graduates could pursue the
specialization in Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) or pursue fellowship courses of Implant Dentistry,
Aesthetic Dentistry, Forensic Dentistry in India or Abroad.
