Ban on Ragging:

               Ragging is any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the
               effect  of  teasing,  treating  or  handling  with  rudeness  to  any  student,  indulging  in  rowdy  or
               undisciplined activities which cause or likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or
               to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student and which has the effect of
               causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the psyche of a
               fresher or a junior student. Supreme Court of India has defined ragging as a criminal offence.

               Ragging is not only anti-social activity but also a criminal offense. SDM University campus is declared
               as ragging free. The management and students are striven hard so far to maintain this status. Any
               activity which may be construed as ragging, will attract severe action including expulsion and criminal
               charges. The University condemns this in human behaviour of ragging and has taken steps beyond
               the obligatory requirements as directed by Courts / Governments / Regulatory Bodies / Universities
               to prevent and make this campus free of ranging. However, students’ co-operation is very essential to
               maintain this as a campus free from ragging. The students are requested and not to hesitate to bring
               to the notice of the management any such activity one which himself / herself faced and having seen
               without any fear.

               Ragging is a Criminal Offence as per Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and Karnataka Educational Act
               1983. SDM University ensures Strict Compliance on the Prevention of Ragging of any Form.

               Penalty for Ragging No person who is a student of an educational institution shall commit ragging.
               Supreme  Court  of  India  has  ordered  that  “if  any  incident  of  ragging  comes  to  the  notice  of  the
               authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his/her explanation is not
               found satisfactory, the authority would expel him/her from the institution”.

               Compliance to Anti-Ragging Regulations of Regulatory Bodies:
                1.  SDM  University  complies  with  the  regulations  prescribed  in  the  UGC  Notification  No.F.1-
                    16/2009(CPP-II)  dated  21/10/2009  related  to  UGC  Regulations  on  Curbing  the  Menace  of
                    Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009.
                2.  SDM  University  complies  with  the  regulations  prescribed  in  the  MCI  Notification  No.  MCI-
                    34(1)/2009-Med./ 25453 dated 03/08/2009.
                3.  SDM  University  complies  with  the  regulations  prescribed  in  the  DCI  Notification  No  DE-167-
                    2008 dated 31/07/2009.
                4.  SDM  University  complies  with  the  regulations  prescribed  in  the  INC  Notification  F.No.22-
                    10/2015-INC (AR) dated 19/09/2017.

               Warning
               No leniency will be shown to the offenders involved in ragging. All students are requested to note
               and co-operate in keeping our university and its constituent colleges free from ragging. Names of the
               officials  with  photograph  and  telephone  number  to  be  contacted  in  case  of  emergency  and
               regulations are printed in the orientation handbook given by the institution.

               As  per  the  statutory  requirement  candidate  &  parent  has  to  submit  the  anti-ragging  affidavit  /
               undertaking at the time of admission.
