IBSC is the nodal point for the implementation of the biosafety guidelines and for the interactions within the institution. IBSC of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University is a registered and accredited committee of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. As per guidelines of DBT, IBSC primarily streamlines and facilitates the research dealing with recombinant DNA, RNAi, pathogens, Human materials (specimen's repositories), transgenic animals, genetically modified plants and seeds, CRISPR and gene knockouts, bacterial and viral vectors-based transfections.

The IBSC is responsible for reviewing and approving research activities conducted by faculty, staff, students, and or visiting scientists on Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, and/or under the control of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University faculty, staff or students that involves procedures for procurement, use, storage, transportation and disposal of biohazardous materials including animal and plant pathogens, biological toxins, and recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules.
